From Selli/Cell Accommodation to Hiisi Hostel Vihti – Hiisi Homes & Hotels Opens Its First Hostel in Vihti

The old police station in Vihti’s, more familiarly known as Selli, has found a new life under the operation of Hiisi Homes & Hotels. Opened in the summer of 2025, Hiisi Hostel Vihti is the family-owned accommodation company’s first hostel, nicely complementing Hiisi’s range of lodging options. The hostel caters both to travelers and to those working at the Vihti Microsoft data center construction site.

The police station operated in Vihti until the early 2000s, after which the police moved to Karkkila and the property was left vacant. In 2009, the premises were converted into lodging facilities, and none other than the legendary Matti Nykänen entertained guests at the opening. Over the years, the former offices and holding cells have been renovated for accommodation use, though one cell has been left in its original yellow condition as a reminder of the building’s colorful past.

Local young entrepreneurs from Karhukopla Kiinteistöpalvelut carried out minor refurbishments over the summer — for example, the walls received a fresh coat of paint and the furnishings were updated. Each room is now also equipped with a widescreen television.

Hiisi Hostel Vihti offers a total of 20 rooms:

• 4 former cells converted into unique cell rooms

• 15 private rooms

• 1 furnished apartment, PUTKA

All rooms are private, and in typical hostel style, the bathrooms, toilets, shared kitchen, living area, and laundry facilities are communal. Breakfast is not served, but guests are welcome to prepare their own meals in the shared spaces. In true Hiisi fashion, the stay is fully contactless — no keys are needed, as access is managed via door codes.
